In 2016, Dr. Sook Kim and Dr. Joshua Kim decided to open their first family-owned dentistry practice. After the success of Duluth Dental and Dentures over the past five years, they opened Dentistry at Ivy Falls to better serve patients in the Johns Creek and Alpharetta communities.

 

Our dental office is happy to offer personalized and convenient care to patients of all ages. We are dedicated to treating everyone fairly with custom services based on your oral health needs. One of the most important beliefs we uphold is our commitment to affordable care you can understand. The Ivy Falls dental team doesn’t overdiagnose, and ensures all patients feel well-informed and aware of all the options available to them.

Dr. Joshua Kim, DDS | General and Restorative Dentist

Dr. Joshua Kim’s interest in oral health and dental care began back in high school when he would work for his mother, Dr. Sook Kim, at her dental office. He went on to attend Southern Adventist University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2009. Following graduation, he worked as a missionary in Pucallpa, Peru.

 

The year spent in Peru was a turning point in Dr. Kim’s career, where he learned how to offer dental injections and teeth extraction techniques, and began to more deeply understand what it means to care for patients. He spent the majority of his time in Peru traveling to various regions of the Amazonian jungle to assist people who lacked access to dental care.

 

This experience reaffirmed Dr. Kim’s calling to dentistry, so when he returned to the states, he applied and was accepted into the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, California. After graduating with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in  2014, Dr. Kim began working as an associate dentist in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with a focus on providing comprehensive dental care to the community.

 

Over five years ago, Dr. Kim and his wife, an Atlanta native, decided to move to Atlanta to be closer to their family and raise their son, Julien. Together with his mother in the summer of 2016, Dr. Kim established Duluth Dental and Dentures to continue their mission of delivering personalized and comprehensive care to individuals in need. Most recently, they’ve opened Dentistry at Ivy Falls in Johns Creek to reach even more patients.

Dr. Sook Kim immigrated to the United States immediately after receiving her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Moving with her family from her native South Korea, she worked as a registered nurse in the U.S. for almost 10 years. This career path led to her decision to pursue a career in dentistry. Dr. Kim went back to school in order to provide greater services to the community.

 

She first attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts before transferring to Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tennessee, due to her husband’s career relocation. This was where Dr. Kim would receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and begin her new career in dentistry. After graduation, Dr. Kim continued her study at Meharry Medical College in a General Practice Residency program. Once she completed the GPR certificate course, she worked as a clinical instructor there for a few years.

 

Dr. Kim subsequently established a private practice in the Nashville area, where she practiced dentistry successfully for over five years before relocating to Florida in support of her husband’s new job transfer. She then established a private clinic in Mt. Dora, Florida, where she developed her passion for creating dentures for her patients and restoring the look and function of their beautiful smiles. 

 

After many years in Florida, Dr. Kim decided to move to Atlanta, Georgia to work with her son, offer her experience to their new practice, and be closer to family. When not at work, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is actively involved in her community, including biannual free clinics and various mission trips, and holds memberships in the Florida Dental Association, American Dental Association, and Central Florida Dental Association.

Dr. Gene Chung attended the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Microbiology and General Biology. Dr. Chung received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.

 
He has enjoyed serving and living in cities across the country, from growing up in Seattle, starting his dental career in Boston, tagging along with his wife to pursue her career in Baltimore, to finally settling down in Johns Creek to be close to his family in the Peach State.
 
Recently, Dr. Chung visited Guatemala to volunteer in a mission course providing service to those without access to dental care. Surrounded by the warm welcome and generosity of the people of Panajachel, he had the privilege of giving back and completing advanced oral surgery training with his mission colleagues.
 
Every day he strives to provide compassionate care for all patients, to celebrate their individuality, and to collaborate to achieve a healthy and beautiful smile. Away from practice, Dr. Chung enjoys spending time with his wife and family, from videography to indoor rock climbing and occasionally assisting his wife’s baking.
